Bertelsmann

Media companies are focused on serving their fast-changing environment and they can thus benefit from partnering with DVI for their technology deployments, whether LAN, WAN, wireless or cloud, or even their distribution facilities (e.g., satellite).

For Bertelsmann, Inc. DVI provided a comprehensive spectrum of services associated with the construction and deployment of the communications infrastructure and associated systems.

Bertelsmann acquired a new Class A building at 1540 Broadway consisting of 44 floors and a total of 900,000 square feet in order to consolidate their New York operations. The office was to serve as the USA Headquarters for several subsidiary companies: Bantam Doubleday Dell, Arista Records, BMG Entertainment, and RCA Victor. Bertelsmann occupied the entire building, consisting of 44 floors and 900,000 square feet of Class A commercial space.

DVI was retained as the consultant with full responsibility for the design, specification, procurement and implementation monitoring of the communications infrastructure and systems including cabling, dual riser, dual service entrances, voice (PABX, TMS, LD and Voice Mail) and Data Communications (LANs, Hubs, etc.), as well as a Master Antenna for building wide TV and FM distribution combining CATV, Satellite TV/RO Earth Stations and HF broadcast. A major accomplishment was the satellite antenna farm which bypassed Manhattan Cable TV, the first all Category 5 cabling plant in NYC, and the consolidated PABX serving the disparate needs of the Entertainment and Publishing subsidiaries.

This project marked the beginning of the revival of NYC’s Time Square district as a world center for a media and entertainment companies. At the time, with over 57,000 employees and 300 media companies in film, radio, television production, book and music publishing, Bertelsmann ranked as the third largest media company in the world.
